Magnus Carlsen retains world chess crown

Norwegian Magnus Carlsen has retained his world chess title after beating Russian Sergey Karjakin in a day of high-speed tiebreakers (3-1). Carlsen had not been able to beat his rival in twelve games of normal-paced chess, which ended in a 6-all draw and led to the play-off. Wednesday was Carlsen's 26th birthday, which he said earlier in the week had brought him good luck in the past.
