Voice for creative women

Barnasants celebrates its 22nd edition and revindicates the role of the creative struggle of the fighting woman, starting January 27 in Hospitalet

“The only way forward towards equality is through feminism; is a proposal that comes from women but is for all of humanity,” declared Pere Camps, founder and director of Barnasants, which begins on 27 January.

With 127 concerts, the festival begins with Les Kol·lantai at the Teatre Joventut in Hospitalet de Llobregat, the 22nd edition of the festival of author, returns this year to collaborate with SGAE and commemorates the anniversary of the Bolshevik revolution through the figure of Alexandra Kol·lantai.

“Les Kol·lantai is a work featuring Montse Castellà, Sílvia Comes, Meritxell Gené and Ivette Nadal who attempt to capture on stage the feminist desire for freedom,” said Camps. The idea was born as a tribute to the revolutionary figure of Alexandra Kol·lantai, the first female ambassador and commissar of the people during the Bolshevik revolution, which celebrates its centenary in 2017.

The festival features song and literature from, among others, Maria Merce Marçal, Montserrat Abelló, Rosa Fabregat and Montserrat Roig although “Les Kol·lantai is the backbone of the festival,” claimed the four members of the group. Despite being light years ahead of the conditions at the time of the revolution, all emphasise that “we do what we can and hopefully act as spokeswomen to change many of the social realities still prevailing,” said Sílvia Comes.

Other artists who are part taking part are Pi de la Serra, Albert Pla (together with Tortell Poltrona and Diego Cortés), Laia Rius, El més petit de tots, Dani Flaco and Daniel Viglietti. Montse Castellà says that Barnasants gives all women a voice.
