New boost for Catalan hub with AA deal

Vueling and American Airlines reach agreement on intercontinental flights from Barcelona's El Prat

Vueling and American Airlines yesterday presented an agreement signed between the two companies which gives a new boost to Barcelona airport, making El Prat an entry point for US passengers flying to Europe and vice versa.

The agreement is active from today and allows American Airlines passengers travelling to Barcelona to connect with Europe, the Middle East and Africa thanks to 140 destinations in the short and medium radius Vueling offers from El Prat. It also allows passengers to travel on a single ticket and collect their luggage at the airport of destination after transferring. Alex Cruz, president of the Catalan airline, said that the agreement is a huge “milestone”, and expects it to be the “precursor” of others, emphasizing El Prat as “the most attractive gateway” to Europe. American Airlines operates a daily flight to New York (JFK) and one to Miami. The agreement now includes direct routes to Philadelphia and Charlotte, to be offered from April and May.
