ANC and Òmnium respond

Catalonia's civil society sovereignty organisations have picked up the gauntlet thrown down by president Mas, and indirectly the parties favourable to the independence of Catalonia, and have taken a step torward reenergising the process for the 27-S elections.

The Assemblea Nacional Catalana put its members to the vote over the organisation's involvement in the elections, in which the ‘yes' vote gained an eloquent victory, provisionally, with 96% support. The leadership headed by Jordi Sánchez now has the mandate to seek the formula of participation that has the most effect on turning the 27-S elections into a plebiscite. At the same time, Òmnium Cultural, through its president Muriel Casals, made its contribution by proposing an independence candidate list, without politicians, but with the explicit support of the sovereignty parties.

Along with the ANC and Òmnium, the Associació de Municipis per la Independència has been instrumental to the sovereignty process, from social activism to mass street mobilisations. Now it is time to do the same on the front line of politics. The first aim is to recover the initiative the politicians have not maintained due to party interests that have robbed the process of its strength. The second is to transfer cross-party sovereignty from the street to the ballot box. To do that, an electoral formula is needed that unites the role of civil society with the responsibility of politicians, focused on victory on 27-S, as well of the government on 28-S.
