MWC puts spotlight on women and youth

The Mobile World Congress opens in Barcelona tomorrow, until Thursday, with a focus on how new technology will change the world. This year, the fair has plenty of space devoted to innovative technology, including virtual reality, robotics, artificial intelligence and drones, as well as more space for smart cities.

Also, the MWC 2017 aims to focus attention on women, who, despite making up half of the population, are under-represented in the mobile tech sector and who, say the organiser GSMA, only made up 21% of attendees last year. Thus, the congress debuts a new forum called Women 4Tech, with coaching, seminars, prizes and tours aimed at boosting the profile of women in the tech sector.

The other sector of society in the spotlight will be young people, through the mSchools programme from the Mobile World Capital, deigned to promote mobile technology in schools.
