Pretoria corruption case goes to trial

This morning, 11 people will face the court in a case of urban planning corruption dubbed the Pretoria case. Among them are former heavyweights in CiU, Lluís Prenafeta Macia Alavedra both held important positions in the governments of Jordi Pujol, the former socialist MP Luis García, and the former socialist mayor of Santa Coloma de Gramenet Bartomeu Muñoz. They are accused of crimes of influence peddling, bribery and money laundering committed between 2000 and 2009 in the municipalities of Santa Coloma, Badalona and Sant Andreu de Llavaneres. It has taken more than seven years for the case to come to trial. The prosecutor is asking for between one and eight years imprisonment.
