Ethnic and Bohemian

Joni Mitchell, Janis Joplin, David Bowie or Jane Birkin are all points of reference for many designers this season. In other words, the seventies are back this summer. With the spirit of the '70s in the ascendent, expect Bohemian designs: long, print-patterned dresses, romantic brocaded and embroidered whites, rock-star metallic golds and denim everywhere. Turning the clock back four decades also means it is OK again to wear flares, which crop up everywhere. In fact, the likes of Gucci, Saint Laurent or Chanel appear to have turned flared garments into their symbol this season. The key to avoid overdoing the seventies vibe is combination. Choose old-style garments with a modern cut to balance out the exuberance of the '70s look. Meanwhile, the catwalks transport us to exotic places, where transparent garments and short crop tops are in order, as well as capes and Roman sandals. A word of warning, however, for men: do not be scared to throw caution to the winds and revel in the daring designs on offer.
