Colau's party born

Podem's national organisation will attend while the Catalan section waits to see how the wind blows

Barcelona en Comú, ICV and EUiA will come together today in the Vall d'Hebron pavilion to found a new party that has no name. The same happened with PDeCAT, but in the case of the new party, the naming has been postponed as Podem, for now, is not coming to the table.

The Podem brand is one of the weapons that Albano Dante Fachin has to negotiate its future integration in the party as he knows the En Comú Podem brand has been successful so far in two elections. Other possibilities are Catalunya en Comú, and Els Comuns.

The new political entity aims to replace Catalunya Sí Que es Pot in parliament and be a credible alternative Junts pel Sí.

At the moment there are more than 10,000 registered in the party, but it is impossible to know where they actually came from; ICV, EUiA or Comúns, as that was one of the questions missing from the registration system and a bone of contention with Podem.

The party will have two governing bodies: an executive of 33 members and a national coordinator committee of 120. Xavier Domènech, considered the architect of the party, is likely to lead the first, while the Mayoress of Barcelona, Ada Colau, will chair the second. Much of the voting system will be on line as well as sessions of debate..

As a start, the statement of political ideology sets the goal of reaching a “democratically and environmentally correct social republic,” but the amendments could go a further in the national aspect, which must be decided early on and discussed under the heading “A fraternal country and sovereign in all aspects.” The document sees “a newly articulated reality of Catalonia, fraternally associated with the peoples of the State.” The principles of ethics and political radicalism of the new democratic group, mandates, salaries and accumulation of public office are to be decided as well as the means of avoiding having to take on ICV's heavy financial debt. Care has been taken that all groups in the new formation are represented in the directorate.
