The search for the stolen children

A cross-party parliamentary initiative has resulted in the Catalan government becoming fully committed to use its ample resources in solving the cases of children who were taken from their parents against their will during and after the Spanish Civil War, the last case reported being as recent as 1996. The initiative answers long-standing lobbying from the group SOS Bebès Robats which protests each week outside Parliament. Five government departments will take part in the investigations. The president of the association, Adelina Ruíz, said that “for the first time we mothers belive that we are being taken seriously and that someone sees the pain we suffer.” There are some 300 cases recorded.
