Millo calls for “patience” on El Prat as Munté calls it sabotage

The delegate of the Spanish government in Catalonia, Enric Millo, yesterday called for “patience” from users of El Prat airport regarding the long queues at passport control and said that the new European security regulations, which require passengers' passports to be checked one by one, means that there are more queues at all airports, not only in Barcelona.

In a radio interview Millo said that El Prat airport “is experiencing a large increase in passengers” and insisted that the “priority” is to ensure security, reminding listeners that “we live under the jihadist threat”, with the alert level at 4 out of 5. Despite the announcement, more users complained about the queues on social networks yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Catalan government rejected the State's explanations. Minister of the Presidency and government spokesperson Neus Munté accused the State of “deliberate sabotage” and criticised the “complicit silence” of Barcelona City Council. Munté said the State “has not taken any of the measures necessary to favour mobility” at the airport, which is “clear negligence, and not by chance”, and described Millo's statements as “unfortunate.” She added that if the situation could not be remedied, then the airport keys should be handed over to the Catalan government.
