Security tightened at shows and events

Following an emergency meeting of the Generalitat’s anti-terrorism coordinating committee chaired by the Catalan minister of the interior, Jordi Jané, it was announced that in coming months there will be a greater police presence at events and shows which may attract a large public turnout. The decision follows the bombing of the Manchester Arena concert venue which cost the lives of 22 people and left others in a critical condition. Most of the events of this nature in Catalonia have been programmed in advanced and the authorities are aware of the number of people that will attend and can plan for extra vigilance and searches at entrances to those venues. In other cases, with events held in public places, control is more complex and needs special measures. The methods used in recent attacks in Europe have also varied, requiring more coordination from security services.
