Italian cabinet places two banks in receivership

The Italian government met yesterday with the sole agenda of approving the liquidation of two banks, the Banca Popolare di Vicenza and the Veneto Banca, after having been urged by European authorities to do so. Paolo Gentiloni’s government met for only 20 minutes and by decree sent the two banks into receivership. The liquidation had been rumoured for some time.
