Same-sex marriage law causes rift

The German parliament will almost certainly pass a same-sex marriage law in the next few days, moved by the Social Democrats but with the support of Angela Merkel. The law however, has caused unease in the conservative CDU ranks. The SDP presented the law as a last ditch attempt to halt its flagging support in the face of the upcoming general elections.
