terror attacks
Barcelona preparing for mass demonstration on Saturday
The Government of Catalonia and Barcelona City Council are confident that large numbers will turn out on Saturday afternoon to express their rejection of terrorism, which is why they yesterday called on representatives of civil organisations to work together so that everyone feels represented. Among others, members of local associations, unions, and organisations representing the third sector and social cooperation organisations met the Councillor for the Old Town and Participation, Gala Pin, and council advisers at City Hall yesterday afternoon to decide upon their participation.
Although some entities had been reluctant to take part in a demonstration headed by authorities and politicians in which figures such as the Spanish prime minister Mariano Rajoy and King Philip VI - who themselves have links to representatives of countries that promote Jihadist terrorism - were present, many confirmed their attendance yesterday. Having registered their protest, the desire to stand alongside citizens prevailed.
It appears the demonstration will be headed by representatives of Muslim entities, the emergency services, taxi drivers, the local police, the Mossos, clean-up staff, firefighters, hospital staff and local residents and shop owners.
