Mayor of Caracas flees house arrest to Columbia

Colombian authorities confirmed yesterday the mayor of Caracas, Antonio Ledezma is in Colombian territory after having escaped from house arrest to which he was confined since 2015. Ledezma entered Colombia crossing the Simón Bolívar international bridge. The Venezuelan newspaper El Nacional reported that Ledezma had escaped “with the intention of seeking asylum in a European country,” without specifying which. His wife Mitzy Capriles, confirmed on Radio Caracol that had fled.
