World outraged by migrant slave trade
A video aired by CNN which demonstrates how young Africans in their attempt to migrate to Europe are sold at auction in Libya as slaves or are beaten or kidnapped in exchange for ransom has generated a wave indignation worldwide, but mainly in Africa. Although social agencies and victims themselves they had repeatedly denounced the practices, it was not until the images were shown that there has been a public reaction. The presidents of West Africa, the region of origin of most immigrants have asked the International Court, the EU the African Union and the United Nations to investigate. The UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres said he is “horrified” and that it is necessary to prosecute the perpetrators of these crimes against humanity.
