Fires force mass evacuation in California

Huge fires raging for six days in southern California have forced the evacuation of more than 230,000 people from different areas. The fires, which until now have burnt 40,000 hectares and destroyed 300 buildings originated on the outskirts of Thomas Aquinas College in Santa Paula, about 115 kilometers from Los Angeles. The governor of California, Jerry Brown, declared a state of emergency in Ventura County, where more than 5,000 fire-fighters are working to extinguish the fires.
