“Spirit of the comeback”

Miquel Iceta says in Lleida that the will “never dance to the rhythm of the CUP” and says he will be a political “MacGyver” to construct an alternative

The Secretary General of the PSOE, Pedro Sanchez, said yesterday he sees the spirit of a “comeback” in the streets of Lleida and asserted the PSC’s aim to be first past the post on 21-D “We are not satisfied being 4th or 2nd or 3rd. We want to be the 1st political force in Catalonia.” At the PSC’s central electoral meeting in Ponent, Sanchez said the polls suggest the PSC will draw in 4th place but opted to make it 1st.

Sanchez guaranteed improved financing proposed by the Catalan Socialist leader Miquel Iceta because what he does is “to propose solutions to real problems” such as the “drama” of health, education or dependency. The leader of the Spanish Socialists noted that for his proposals Iceta has received criticism from all sides and this indicates that “he is the solution,” he said, offering projects that could be shared in their diversity.

Sanchez claimed that Iceta is the person capable of putting an end to Catalan separatism He also strongly criticised the legacy of Mariano Rajoy, emphasising the unreturned bank bailout, corruption, social inequalities and territorial division.

Iceta, in turn, offered “experience” in the face to the Ciutadans “experiment” and demanded replacing independence with policies that exclude no one. Having been likened in the press to an architect or an engineer, Iceta stated he would be more then happy to be a Catalan “MacGyver” if need be.

He also referred to criticism of his dancing at campaign rallies and pledged to “never dance to the rhythm of the CUP”, a party he claimed “is out of control and had done a lot of harm to Catalonia.”
