AIDS test on sale OTC in Spanish pharmacies
Diagnostic tests for HIV can be purchased in pharmacies without prescription. This was approved yesterday by the Spanish cabinet on a proposal from the Minister of Health, Social Services and Equality, Dolors Montserrat. The government approved a Royal Decree amending the legislation of medical devices for in vitro diagnosis, eliminating the need for prescription and allowing tests in the privacy of the home. The department will also begin an awareness campaign to promote early detection of HIV.
