Macron defends tough stance on refugees

French President Emmanuel Macron has firmly defended his tough stance towards refugees. Despite much criticism, the centrist leader defended his immigration policy in Calais yesterday, which he claims to be a combination of humanism and firmness. Amid growing controversy over a new immigration law, Macron visited a shelter for refugees in the town of Croisilles before moving on to Calais, where he met local leaders and humanitarian associations before giving a speech to police.
