Gusts cause rail delays and damage

Wind gusts of over 100 km per hour in different parts of the country caused an avalanche of calls to the 112 fire and emergency telephone to report multiple incidents from Tuesday night until yesterday afternoon. Wind speeds accelerated on Tuesday night, especially in coastal areas of central and southern Catalonia, interrupting rail traffic as a precautionary measure from 6 am on a number of routes, mostly in the province of Tarragona. The winds also affected transport in the area around Puigcerdà and other parts of the Pyrenees. Strong wind gusts also brought down trees in different municipalities and Tarragona, where gusts reached almost 90 km per hour in the morning, the council decided to close access to several public parks in the city. In Vendrell, a wall fell in carrer Rabassaires onto the street, without causing incident due to preventive measures taken by the town council.
