De Tommaso, Tenor Viñas prizewinner

The 24-year-old British tenor Freddie de Tommaso has won the 55th edition of the International “Tenor Viñas” Song Contest, held on Friday night at the Liceu opera house in Barcelona. Second prize went to the 30-year-old soprano from Seville, Leonor Bonilla. Third prize was won by the 33-year-old South Korean tenor, Sehoon Moon.

Sixteen contestants took part in the final of this year’s contest, out of the 515 from 60 countries who entered. The aspiring singers underwent a series of elimination rounds in London, New York, Paris, Milan, Beijing, San Francisco, Moscow and Madrid.

The remaining prizes went to 29-year-old French soprano Anaïs Constans, the 33-year-old countertenor from South Korea Jungkwon Jang, and 27-year-old US baritone Andrew Manea.

The international jury was made up of representatives from the world’s major opera houses.
