Merkel under fire for coalition with the SDP
Angela Merkel faced criticism from within her own conservatives on Thursday for the concessions to Martin Schulz’ Social Democrat Party (SPD) partners to seal a governing alliance. Merkel, who leads the Christian Democrats (CGU) ceded the powerful finance ministry to the SPD in a coalition deal agreed to on Wednesday, over four months after a national election last September.
