Budget goes ahead without “dreamers”

The eight hours and ten minutes that the 77-year-old Nancy Pelosi (Dem) spent on her feet in a filibuster in the US Congress was not enough to gain what many Americans believe to be justice for the 690,000 “Dreamers”, children of illegal immigrants who have lived their entire lives in the US. They now face deportation. An agreement was reached yesterday between Republicans and Democrats to unblock the US finances and allow Federal funding to continue. Democrats won important concession in defence, social programmes, family planning, drug addiction, child health and other areas. The agreement is for two years, the US will continue to function, but the dreamers will pay a high price.
