Brassaï makes BCN return 25 years on

If you’ve never heard of Gyulá Halász, don’t worry, because he signed his photographs Brassaï, literally “from Brassó”, the city in present-day Romania where he was born in 1899. Yet Brassaï also stands for artistic talent, and Gyulá Halász had plenty, even though today he is best known for his photography.

That photography can be seen in the Barcelona HQ of the Fundació Mapfre. The exhibition until May 13 is the first dedicated to Brassaï since one organised 25 years ago in the Fundació Tàpies. This Brassaï exhibition lives up to expectations, and includes over 200 works, mostly from the collections of institutions and private collectors, in the United States and Europe above all.
