Canet Rock: Let the good times roll

The Catalan festival of festivals already counts more editions this century that it did in the early days in the 70s

The self-proclaimed “good times festival” Canet Rock unveiled its 5th poster following its return to the stages in 2014. The poster shows the most festive and popular groups of today in Catalonia and Laura Duran, the festival’s artistic director, described it as international, as there are many groups which often perform abroad such as Txaranga, which will be back on stage at the Pla d’en Sala as the sun goes up or La Sra.Tomasa finally making its debut at Canet Rock after having attended past editions as part of the crowd.

The organisers are almost certain that once again the event will be a sellout and are preparing to welcome around 23,000 festival-goers on July 7. For now will the festival is only the one daybut without ruling out extending it to two in coming years. There will still be only one stage although it will be much larger according to festival director Gemma Recoder who without detailing the budget is sure that the audience will be more comfortable this year.

In addition to the bands already announced such as Raíz (one of the three Valencian groups to feature on the programme, along with Zoo and newcomers, Pupil·les), are Dr. Prats and veterans Macaco, and Els Catarres, who after taking a year and a half away from the stage, will return.

The festival will kick-off with Sense Sal’s pop-folk, premiere Animal’s upbeat new release, La melodia del foc and will give a warm welcome to Els Amics de les Arts. Dani Alegret, one of the group, yesterday praised Canet Rock as “Catalonia’s festival of festivals”. Soul Machine and dancers Brodas Bros have a surprise in store and Miquel del Roig is back, although he may have to be careful about what he sings in the present atmosphere of repression.
