US plans to open embassy in Jerusalem in May
The US plans to open the American embassy in Jerusalem next May, according to a Reuters. President Trump defended recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel last December, an idea that served to justify the transfer of the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Vice President Mike Pence said that the original plan to make the change in 2019 had been moved forward so as to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the Israeli state. There are fears that the move could create further conflict.
