Vandals attack Barcelona’s Olympic heritage

The Vila Olímpica was intended to perpetuate the 1992 Games, and as part of that monuments, art works and commemorative insignia are to be found in a number of its streets and squares. Over the years, however, deterioration or vandalism has disfigured many, but a more serious episode occurred January 21, when a bronze sculpture, la Vaga, was stolen from carrer Salvador Espriu and plaques with names of legendary athletic champions decorating the pavement were destroyed.
