More than 110,000 take maths test

More than 110,000 students in Catalonia from more than 1,100 schools participated in yesterday’s International Mathematical Kangaroo XXIII, an increase of 15% students enrolled in seven centres. The test, organised by the Catalan Mathematical Society in the context of the international organisation Kangourou sans Frontières, tests students from primary 5th grade to second-year baccalaureate and vocational training. Participants are tested in mathematical schematics which fall outside the normal school curriculum in areas of practical competence which help teachers understand the working mind of the student better, thus allowing for schools to develop more efficient delivery. Students who pass with high marks win prizes. Until now these usually have comprised equipment such as computers but organisers feel it more positive to offer places in a mathematic summer campus.
