A solid victory for Vladimir Putin

Rather than wear him down, power continues to strengthen Vladimir Putin who gained strong support (around 72% according to exit polls) to take the presidential elections held yesterday, reaffirming the Russian leader in his 4th mandate in the Kremlin virtually unopposed. The new czar will govern at will thanks to the high turnout. The result was a foregone conclusion with the only doubt being the percentage, which was slightly higher than expected. His nationalistic approach to politics after attempts by the West to humiliate Russia following the end of communist rule and the figure he casts as a saviour of the nation in the face of all (mostly foreign) adversity give little room for any viable opposition.
