Llarena precipitates investiture
The Speaker of the House Roger Torrent reacted quickly in the face of yet another judicial tactic aimed at stalling the investiture debate by calling a plenary session of Parliament this afternoon with a single point on the agenda: to discuss and vote on the nomination of Jordi Turull for the presidency of the Generalitat. The aim is for the JuntsxCat MP to appear the next day before the Supreme Court having already been elected President of the Generalitat by a majority of the Catalan Parliament. Following Jordi Sànchez’s withdrawal and the Supreme court summoning Turull among others to appear in court in Madrid on Friday, Torrent contacted the parliamentary groups by phone before officially nominating Turull.
