UN urges Spain to ensure Sànchez’s political rights

The UN’s Human Rights Committee yesterday urged the Spanish authorities to take “all necessary measures to ensure” that jailed Catalan MP Jordi Sànchez “can exercise his political rights” according to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The committee confirmed it had registered the petition submitted by the lawyers of the former head of the ANC association. Sànchez has been in prison since October 16 awaiting trial for his part in organizing pro-independence protests.
