Gunman kills three in stand off near Carcassonne

Three people were killed and five wounded yesterday in southern France after a gunman stole a car, fired at police and took hostages in a supermarket. Police shot dead the gunman after a four-hour standoff at the Super U supermarket in the town of Trèbes, near Carcassonne. The French authorities identified the gunman as 26-year-old Redouane Lakdim. Police took into custody a woman who was “very close” to Lakdim prosecutor François Molins told reporters at a news conference in Carcassonne.
