Ponsatí hearing adjourned until July

The Edinburgh judge hearing the case of the European arrest and extradition warrant for the Catalan education minister, Clara Ponsatí issued by the Spanish Supreme Court has decided to adjourn the hearing until July before deciding on extradition. At the hearing yesterday the judge heard the case of the defence and asked for more information on both parties. Ponsatí will have to appear before the court on May 15 and July 5 before the final hearing, which will last about two weeks, begins on July 30. Ponsatí’s lawyer, Aamer Anwar, read a statement outside the courts saying his client “rejects all charges.” He told the court he aimed to fight the extradition “for many reasons, but mainly because the Spanish court had abused its power,” and argued that Ponsatí, who presented herself to the police , “has not committed one crime in her life and if extradited, faced 33 years in prison.”
