Santi Vila defends his role in Sixena case

Catalonia’s former Minister of Culture, Santi Vila, gave evidence yesterday in a court in Osca (Aragon) in the Sixena case. Vila, who is charged with crimes of disobedience and breach of trust for not having facilitated the handing over of the artworks originating from the monastery in Aragon, told the judge he stood by every decision he had taken. He reminded the judge that hundreds of items were ready for transfer in July 2016 at the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC). However, he did not authorise the release of the pieces from Lleida because the injunction clashed with the “mandatory” law of heritage and museums of the Generalitat, protecting the unity of the collection.
