PP appeals to Constitutional Court to invalidate delegate vote

The Catalan PP has presented allegations to the Constitutional Court (TC) to impose a precautionary measure by urgency to prohibit the delegated votes of President Carles Puigdemont, and former minister Antoni Comín. The move is a desperate attempt to prevent the investiture of Quim Torra as president of the Generalitat scheduled for this afternoon.

On a previous appeal also from the PP the TC had accepted to hear the matter but refused urgency and the annulment of the votes of the exiles as a precautionary measure. The conservatives argue that it is “essential” and “urgent” to suspend decisions made by the Standing Committee permitting the delegation t as if the investiture went ahead it could be deemed “null and void” having been approved by “illegal votes.” If in fact the TC did suspend the delegation of votes, the election of Torra as president would be impossible as ERC and JxCat would not have enough votes between them. In such a case, the favourable votes of CUP would be necessary for the election to go ahead in the second round on Monday. The TC has made it clear it has no prevision for dealing with the appeal with urgency. The PP claims that the delegate votes will eventually be declared invalid, thus invalidating the session.
