Venturós says she is victim of a “political witch-hunt”

A court in Manresa yesterday tried the mayoress of Berga, Montserrat Venturós, for disobedience of authority for not removing an independence flag from the balcony of the town hall on the day of the Catalan elections in 2015. The prosecution has asked for a sentence of six-months’ disqualification from public office and a fine of €540. The original case was quashed by the judge but the prosecutor has managed to reopen the case. In her defence, Venturós said the legal system was subject to politicians and that she was the victim of a “political witch-hunt.”
