Europe to mount SMS alert system in the EU
European institutions agreed yesterday to establish an SMS alert for mobile phones for citizens in the event of attacks and catastrophes in all EU countries The system will allow citizens and travellers to be informed of impending or ongoing threats in the area where they are. This system already exists in the Netherlands, which was the first country in the world to have such a service.
