Liu Xia, widow of Liu Xiaobo finally leaves China

Liu Xia, the widow of late Chinese political dissident and Nobel Peace Prize winner Liu Xiaobo, has left Beijing on a flight to Berlin, according to news reports. Her departure was confirmed by various press agencies and came just one day after the German Chancellor Angela Merkel met with the Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. Merkel had also pressed for her release during her visit to China in May. Her husband, Liu Xiaobo, China’s most famous dissident, died of liver cancer in July 2017 in a Chinese prison.
