Spain’s film academy head Yvonne Blake dies

The president of Spain’s film academy, Yvonne Blake, died yesterday in Madrid aged 78. Blake was a renown costume designer who won an Oscar for the film Nicholas and Alexandra. She took over at the head of the institution in 2016, after the resignation of Antonio Resines, but in that same year was hospitalised after suffering a stroke. Born in Manchester, much of Blake’s career took place in Spain. She worked with such prominent filmmakers as François Truffaut, Milos Forman and Richard Lester.
