Russia attacks Syrian rebel base in Idlib

Russian aircraft yesterday bombed the Syrian province of Idlib, which could be the prelude to a large-scale offensive by President al-Assad’s forces to recover this region now in rebel hands. The Russian bombings, the first in three weeks, arrive after Donald Trump warned Al-Assad, Russia and Iran against an offensive that could result in a “human tragedy.” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov rejected the warning, saying the Syrian army is preparing to clean up the “terrorist nest” in the area.
