Search for six-year old goes on in Mallorca

The search for six-year-old Artur, who went missing in Mallorca when the vehicle he was in was swept away by flooding in Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, was yesterday extended as far as the sea, at the mouth of the Planes waterway. The search involves a team of 200 people from the emergency services, while some 500 volunteers are helping with the clean-up following the floods.

The tax and public administrations minister, Catalina Cladera, said that boats from the Guardia Civil’s UME emergency unit were searching an area around the coast as far as seven miles out. Meanwhile, sources from the Balearic island’s emergency department reported that the child’s backpack had been found at the end of the waterway. According to the Guardia Civil, the child’s mother was driving the car when flooding took them by surprise as they were arriving at Manacor a Capdepera and were forced to deviate towards Sant Llorenç.
