Catalan executive says Socialists lacked “courage”

Calling an early election is proof of the “failure” and the “lack of courage” shown by Pedro Sánchez Socialist government in tackling Catalonia’s political conflict with Spain. That was the reaction of the Catalan government to Sánchez’s announcement on Friday that, after the failure to pass the 2019 budget, there will be another general election on April 28. “Today again shows that Spain cannot be governed without facing up to Catalonia’s political problem,” said government spokeswoman, Elsa Artadi.
