L’Hospitalet de Llobregat gets new metro station

Yesterday, the Provençana metro station went into operation, the sixth on Line 10 south and the 18th in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat. The station’s opening has been long-awaited, since local residents saw boring machines digging underground but without the city seemingly getting any new station. Finally, the Santa Eulàlia neighbourhood is now better connected thanks to the Provençana station, with a second due to open in the autumn, in the Ciutat de la Justícia. When, in 2020, the Ernest Lluch station on Line 5 opens, L’Hospitalet will see its underground network complete, with some 20 stations in all.

“We are not used to the authorities meeting their deadlines,” said the head of the neighbourhood association yesterday, Manuel Piñar. The satisfaction of the locals is shared by mayor Núria Marín, who pointed to the commitment of former president Carles Puigdemont and former territory minister Josep Rull when Line 9 was inaugurated. The new territory minister, Damià Calvet, called the extension of the metro line “valuable” – in September two others were opened on Line 10 south, Foc and Foneria – as it “allows people to connect”, which is “our obsession,” he said. According to the president, Quim Torra, his government “is working for mobility” unlike what the state authorities are doing with the Rodalies local rail network.
