Court case begins over possession of Sigena murals

Yesterday in Huesca, the court case began pitting Catalonia against Aragon over the Romanesque paintings from the monastery of Santa María de Sigena. The 12th-century murals have been in the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC) since they were rescued by art historian Josep Gudiol in the Spanish Civil War. Yet, the Aragonese say they are spoils of war and want them back.
