Armenian president addresses foreign dignitaries at event to commemorate Ottoman massacre

“Recognition of the genocide is the triumph of conscience and human justice over intolerance and hate,” said Serzh Sarkisian in Yerevan yesterday. The Armenian president was speaking during the main event commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide, in which it is estimated that 1.5 million Armenians died in the massacre planned by the Young Turks in charge of the Ottoman Empire at the ti-me. All over the world
yesterday commemoration events took place to remember the slaughter.

Turkey continues to refuse to recognise the massacre, along with a handful of countries wary to incur Istanbul's displeasure. More than 20 nations, including Russia but not the U S, have recognised the genocide.

“I am grateful to all those who are here to on-ce again confirm your commitment to human values, to say that nothing is forgotten, that after 100 years we remember,” Sarkisian told his guests made up of dignitaries from country's recognising the genocide..
