Oriol Pujol pleads guilty but will avoid prison

The former Secretary General of Convergéncia Democràtica de Catalunya (CDC), Oriol Pujol, yesterday pleaded guilty before a court in Barcelona to charges of accepting bribes, fraud, falsifying documents, bribery and influence peddling. Pujol was sentenced to two-and-a-half years imprisonment and a fine of €76,000 but will avoid serving his sentence in prison after arriving at an agreement with the prosecutor. His wife, Anna Vidal, also admitted her guilt and was sentenced to one-and-a-half years.
