Roses fire thought to have been provoked

The main hypothesis regarding the fire that started in Roses last Sunday is that it was provoked, although other possible causes have not yet been ruled out, including possible negligence. Early yesterday morning, while firefighters did their latest surveillance rounds to check the fire was under control, forest rangers searched the area with a dog trained to detect hydrocarbons and tried to determine the origin of the blaze.

The fact that four focal points were detected on both sides of a seven kilometre stretch of road is what led Roses mayor, Montse Mindan, to put forward the hypothesis of it being intentionally provoked on Sunday. Other sources closer to the investigation explained yesterday that similar circumstances could occur in exceptional cases (a burning tyre running down the road), but this was unlikely to be the case in the Roses fire.
