CATALONIA

Deal struck to raise civil servants’ wages

The Catalan government has agreed to increase civil servants’ salaries by up to 1.95%. However, the unions have pointed out that 0.20% of the amount would be in the form of additional payments and it is not specified how the amounts will be paid, leading to one union leaving yesterday’s meeting in protest. The main objection was that there was no mention of payments still pending from 2013 and 2014. Around 200 people demonstrated outside the meeting, claiming they are still owed back pay.
