Far-right second in opinion polls in Germany

The Merkel led coalition government in Germany continues to lose public support with the far-right proving to be the main beneficiary. The Alternative for Germany party (AfD) has overtaken the Social Democrats (SPD), the junior party in Germany’s governing coalition, in voter popularity to become Germany’s second-strongest party, behind Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservatives, according the latest polls. The AfD moved up two points from September 9, now reaching 18%.
